A card indea has been prepared which includes the name of every student who has received assistance together with full particulars as to his academic status, method of escape from Hong Kong and plans for the future. A record is also kept on this card of the nature of any financial ass13- tance which has been given, together with the date, amount and purpose.

Expenditure to date. When the work was commenced it was estimated that the cost per head for the provision of immediate rollof would be in the region of 31,000. It was also anticipated that a further monthly subsidy would be necessary after entry into a University to supplement the loan obtained by all students from the Chinese Ministry of Education. Actually the amount of money advanced in most instances was 500 and only in exceptional cases was as much as $1,000 gaven, although in many instances the original grant of 3500 had to be supp the cost of additional or unexpected expenses en ra ute obtaining transport. In the case of some students ties in March or in April a monthly subsidy of 350 hagj
